Wen's Table
This custom made table brings together my training in joinery with
my love of sculptural form. The table is of solid walnut with
inlays of solid Birdseye maple fish. The added leaf displays
a Yin-Yang image with the inlaid fish in the center. 48” x 30”
Mahogany Dining Table
This custom dining table is accompanied by eight custom chairs. The
dining table is intended to be elegant yet not too formal and features
hand-carved legs and a textured underside. The table has three
leaves which allow it to easily accommodate ten settings. 40” x

Paul's Table
This kitchen table is a classic trestle style table made from select
locally grown hard maple. The design is part Shaker, part S&S
Studio. The finish is hand-rubbed oil to accent the natural wood grain.

Tamar's Table
This small trestle table is custom-made to fit a breakfast nook.
The design combines a simple slab top with a sculptural trestle base. The
wood is locally harvested curly maple with
an oil finish.

Nook and Table
This is a custom breakfast nook with a companion table. The design
contrasts the clean look of the built-in bench and its bead-board
trim with the rustic feel of the pedestal table. The table
is made of reclaimed chestnut from a local barn. Table 32” x

Curly Maple Table and Chairs
This is a custom kitchen table with a matching
set of chairs. The trestle table is made of highly-figured
Pennsylvania maple as are the chairs. The upholstery is leather. Table:

Coffey Coffee Table
This sculptural piece of furniture features local materials from
Western Massachusetts. The slab of Ashfield stone rest upon legs made
of locally harvested maple. 24” x 38” x 18”
JKL Table
This is one of a set of custom-made coffee tables. This piece
combines maple, ebonized ash and tempered glass. The others
have solid cherry for the top. 24” x 60” x 18”

End Tables
A set of cherry end tables inspired by the classic Shaker table
designs. Mortise and tenons, dovetail joinery, and some beautiful
cherry make for an elegant but strong table. 12” x 18” x 24”
Zoomorphic desk
This lively yet elegant design combines a large desk top with hand-shaped
legs. The hand-carved drawers feature the two sides of the
Indian head nickel carved in bas relief. Maple and walnut. 36”

Collin's Desk
This poet's desk is inspired by Asian design, yet is proportioned
for contemporary tastes. Massachusetts Curly birch with mortise and

West Table
This custom-made pedestal table combines contemporary styling with
classic design to meet the needs of a busy Boston office. The
table is made of hard maple that I dyed and varnished. 48”

Snake Table
This is a sculptural piece of furniture. This one of a kind piece
is intended to get a smile. Mahogany snakes with a mouth full of white

Night Stand
This is cherry nightstand is part of a bedroom set. The simple
piece emphasizes function and reliability. Traditional joinery
and locally-grown solid cherry wood with a hand rubbed oil finish. 18”

Cherry Dresser
. Part of a bedroom set, this piece is custom made
using local, sustainably harvested cherry. The large drawers
are made of maple, and the hand shaped pulls are walnut. 24”

Stereo Cabinet
This custom-made stereo cabinet is made of solid walnut and walnut
veneers with black grille work and wheels. The upright design
was designed by the architect-client to meet the specific needs of

Credenza
One of a set of custom made credenzas, this piece exhibits clean
and contemporary styling. The piece is made of custom-veneered,
quarter-sawn curly cherry with brushed aluminum door panels. 24”

Armoire
One of a set of custom made armoires, this design borrows from the
arts and crafts tradition, also known as the craftsman style of furniture.
Made of quarter sawn white oak and oak veneered panels, stained and
then finished with shellac. 36” x 24” x 80”
Media Cabinet
This entertainment cabinet was custom made to accommodate a flat
screen TV and stereo equipment. The angled design allows for
a baseboard heater and space constraints while providing enough room
and stability above. Curly maple solids and veneers with ebonized
ash and blackened grille work. 60” x 30” x 80”
Sideboard
This custom made buffet of solid mahogany is intended to be elegant
and light, yet not too serious. The legs and underside of the top
are hand-shaped and textured. The top is made of ribbon-striped mahogany
with a tough varnish finish. 20” x 60” x 40”
Display Case
This display case was custom designed for a busy musical instrument
shop in New England. The wood is white oak with a shellac finish. 18”

Cherry Bed
This custom queen-sized bed is made from locally-harvested cherry
wood with ebonized ash accents. The finish is hand-rubbed oil.
Simon Bed
. This piece was custom designed by Twinspine
architects and built here at S&S Studio. This unusual king-size
bed features a tension slat design with bent slats with adjustable
camber. The headboard accommodates pillows and blankets,
as well as books. Made of maple, cherry, ash with purple-heart wood
accents.
Arch Bed
. This custom cherry bed relies on simple, restful lines
and traditional joinery. Comfort and craftsmanship in a beautiful
selection of cherry wood. Queen size.
Armchair
Graceful lines, strong joinery, and beautiful wood are
combined in this informal dining chair, custom-made to accompany a
curly maple kitchen table. Curly maple with leather upholstery. 19”

Throne Chair
This one of a kind mahogany dining chair features bent laminated
stiles, hand-carved legs, staved seat, and a tapestry woven back,
woven onto the chair. Very formal yet very inviting. 19” x

Dining Chairs
These custom chairs are part of a set of ten. Inspired by
the Throne chair pictured on this site, this set of chairs
completes a dining room set. Sturdy yet elegant and spirited,
they are made from mahogany with upholstered seats
Wine Rack
This custom carved wine rack combines traditional motifs along with
contemporary images of wine, music and the Grateful Dead. Hand
carved to suit the client's personal tastes. Mahogany 12”

Carved Mirror
This is a one-of-a-kind hand carved mirror frame with beveled mirror
glass. The imagery is the traditional acanthus leaf within
a classic design. Bass wood and paint. 38” x 45” x 2”
Corbels
This set of carved corbels was made to match original 19 th century
brackets. Architectural restoration carving is one of the services

Dog Handles
. These custom carved dog pulls were hand carved
for a client's kitchen. Each of the dogs is unique and has a bone
to allow you to easily pull open the drawer. Mahogany and maple. 2”

Carved Owl
This hand-carved barred owl was carved as a newel cap for a client's
house. The piece is just under life-size and is holding a lifeless
mouse in the talons. It is carved from a single piece of Cuban mahogany.

Cat
. This hand-carved newel cap depicts a reclined
cat. The cat was carved from a single block of Cuban mahogany and
is a bit less than life size. 5” x 5” x 9”
Tribal Mirror
. This carved mirror frame freely borrows from traditional
African carving. The sturdy frame was custom-made here in western
Massachusetts from well-joined imported mahogany. 20” x 38” x 2”
Veggie Frame
Woodcut-style decorative carving adorns this large mirror frame.
One of a series of frames made in the past, but always available by

Shoji Screen
This piece of functional sculpture was inspired by Asian landscapes
and Japanese architectural design. The piece functions either as a
window screen or a light valence. Cherry with rice paper. 24”

Shelves with Shoji
This shows just a corner of a large office furnished with custom
maple desks, bookshelves, paneled wall, and a pocket shoji door. A
nice combination of custom cabinetry, furniture and millwork
Reading Nook
This corner of a residential office library offers a built-in reading
bench with recessed halogen lighting and warm, rich paneled trim. The
whole room includes a custom-made desk and a built-in library. Made
of stained butternut hardwood with mahogany plywood panels
Shambhala Case
. A corner of an extensive office project, this
built-in bookcase is made of curly cherry hardwood and cherry ply
with glass doors, and curved fixed shelves. 12” x 120” x 100”
Bragg Vanity
A custom wall-hung double vanity. This very architectonic
piece uses thin curly cherry veneer to accent the horizontal attitude
of the cabinet. Finished in a resistant varnish. 24”

A custom vanity using classical design and modern materials. this
cabinetry is made of cherry with antique staining and varnish.

Corner Desk
This architect-designed home office makes good use of contemporary
materials. The desk and file cabinet are of made of curly quarter-sawn
cherry and maple. The shelves and trim are also of cherry while the
marker board is backed with steel to create a magnetic board.
Country Kitchen
This favorite design uses Shaker-style panels with full overlay
doors, all painted with milk paint like color. Custom kitchen
cabinetry is one of the services provided by S&S Studio.
Maple Kitchen
This custom kitchen features custom veneered panels in Shaker- style
doors. The ample sunlight will bring this kitchen to life as the curly
maple veneer ages gracefully
Glynn's Kitchen
This custom kitchen features a lot of tricky woodworking
squeezed into a tight space. All of the cabinetry and panels are custom-laid
matched veneer. Made of curly quartered-sawn cherry and figured maple
accented with ebonized ash trim.
Kitchen 261
Another fine use of curly cherry veneer. This image shows one side
of a large Boston kitchen which is made of custom laid veneer panels
with stainless steel hardware.
Craftsman Style Mantel
This custom made oak mantel is in the Arts and Crafts tradition.
It was made to compliment the heavy stone work in a New England bungalow-style
home.
